james (whispering)
it's just for a little bit...

cut to:

int. convenience store - night

the camera rushes past a frozen mia, to the left of the aisle, and reveals a stairway that lead to an opening door with the same orange, blue, and clear pattern as the windows that appeared across the street as they drove out of the convenience store parking lot.

voice on phone (eerily calm)
leave him. drive. there are four more windows.

cut to:

ext. plainfield - night

cu - mia's legs running.

in dark green pants and dirty tennis shoes, she almost blends into the night barring the reflective tips of her old nikes. as she runs, an inset reveals mia's hands taking a spray bottle and wedging it in between the accelerator and the frame of the car. a new inset pops up showing her slamming the door and lying on the street as the car speeds away without her. the insets disappear one by one. during this, we watch as her pace slows more and more, eventually coming to a stop. there is a pause while she is stopped.

the camera slowly pans up to reveal a string of multi-colored lights hanging about a knee-high fence. as the camera raises higher and higher, it reveals a group of middle-aged people (1 man, two women) on lawn chairs in front of a tiny downtrodden house. there are fake tiki torches accompanying the multi-colored lights inside the fenced-in area. the man (charlie) and one of the women (mary) look at mia while the other (gina) is engrossed in a television program airing a television sitting on the ground in front of her.

mia
i'm not here to scare you, but...(catches breath)...crap that's not going to work.
